Decorative wall
Explore the Michener Institute lobby: a DNA-inspired backlit wall using Daycora hollow-core panels, designed by GOW Hastings Architects.
222 St Patrick St, Toronto, Ontario
The Michener Institute of Education at UHN renovated its lobby with new lighting, a white reception desk and flexible seating. A multi-coloured feature panel based on Dr. Diana Schatz’s DNA provides a distinctive focal point for the space.
GOW Hastings Architects designed the lobby renovation and specified Plas-Tech to supply and install a backlit feature wall spanning the space. The teams had previously worked together using 16 mm polycarbonate multiwall panels as a decorative wall and baffle.
Daycora hollow-core panels and a custom-made framing system form the feature wall. A DNA-inspired design across the front and back of the panels creates visual depth, while the translucent material allows light through.
At the centre of the wall, Plas-Tech reproduced the Michener Institute logo in three-dimensional, laser-cut letters mounted on translucent white polycarbonate panels.
