Peter Harper, Global’s architectural acoustics manager, and Richard Lenz of RealAcoustix LLC collaborated on the Secchia Piazza project at Grand Rapids Community College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. A colourful “skycone” creates a distinctive feature above the space.
A skirt of DeAmp AS Translucent Sound Absorber Panels was installed inside the skycone. The panels combine sound absorption with a translucent appearance.
Their colours were selected to complement the glazing in the dome and the palette developed by architect Ned Baxter of Progressive Companies.
The project combines coloured glazing, translucent panels and acoustic design within a single interior feature.
